Painting.
My Lens
Painting arrived when I stopped trying to make sense of everything; during the Melbourne lockdowns, mostly as a way to stay sane. After years of writing for others, I needed a language that didn’t have to be logical. So I turned to colour to process the world.
My work’s bright because the things I’m thinking about usually aren’t. But maybe that’s the point — to find something hopeful in the mess. to reconnect to the parts of myself that don’t fit neatly in a sentence.
Each piece is an attempt to make the chaos a little more beautiful.

This was originally a piece responding to events in Gaza – it developed into a commentary on my relationship with fame. I was a stand up comedian for many years and worked in TV and saw how fame can warp people’s relationships.
The top evokes mountains and clouds and also frames up the outline of a face while the bottom is a grid work of fields representing the real stuff of life that I ignored for many years in pursuit of fame.
Where It Began
Every brushstroke tells a story. Here are a few from the early days experiments in colour, form, and feeling.

On The Walls
Some of the places my paintings have found a wall (and a glass of wine or two).
